Artist Statement

As a mosaic artist, everything around me provides inspiration. I love transforming my photographs into mosaics using a combination of stained glass techniques, large and both small glass pieces and narrow grout lines.
While I love to explore themes of nature and wildlife, no subject matter is off limits. My process is both deliberate and intuitive, from cutting glass to choosing color, placement and reworking until my piece feels like it comes to life. I like to repurpose found objects like small wood tables, frames and other great finds. I find such joy in bringing them new life with paint and mosaics. Ultimately, my work is an invitation to pause and look deeper—to engage with the distinctions of texture, space, and to feel a sense of curiosity. |
About me

I have been creating mosaics for 20 years, but I’ve loved making things my whole life. I’m mainly self-taught, but, early on I was awarded an Emerging Art Grant which allowed me to mentor with a very well known mosaic artist, Cassie Edmonds. I’ve displayed my art in galleries and art shows in Kansas, Minnesota, Texas and Missouri. My sun mosaic have appeared on CBS Sunday Morning as transition pieces seven times, with one of my mosaics making the producer’s top 32 (as documented in the article “Here Comes the Sun.”) I love creating mosaics from my own photos, as well as making abstract pieces. I especially enjoy sharing my love of mosaics through teaching classes. I have worked over the years in a small basement room, to various rooms I’ve taken over in our houses, to, currently, an actual studio we had built in our backyard. I Love Mosaics!
